“Stay home, because we can’t.”
During the coronavirus pandemic, this call has been the creed of our courageous frontliners to the community. Two of these essential jobs are the security guards and janitorial staff who have been contributing the society with their noble service.
As the new coronavirus began sweeping across the globe, security and sanitation demand skyrocketed. Apart from the medical, bank, and grocery staff, the security guards and janitors are also referred to as modern-day heroes. These heroes have furthermore proven their grounds and value in maintaining the community’s orderliness and cleanliness.
As per the security guards, they have been trusted with rendering proactive protections such as, but not limited to, 24-hours surveillance, immediate response, and advance facilitation to our people and businesses; but nowadays, in our new normal lifestyles brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, their roles have become much more serious and important. From constantly checking the temperatures of visitors who arrive and depart to and from the establishments, to upholding the safety and security protocols of the properties they’re looking after, it is clear how our security guards are also at high exposure of the COVID-19 dubbed as the “silent enemy.”
Also, our friends in the sanitation industry like the janitors, are of no exception to the risks of the pandemic as they continue to deliver to their respective operations. These cleaning workers face the dangers that go beyond tackling the current health crisis. Even before these challenging times, janitors handle corrosive cleaning chemicals, haul heavy objects, and come into contact with potentially infectious garbage, not to mention the many other tasks they faithfully work on to with or without the observant eyes of their supervisors and or customers.
Same with all the other professions, no job is an easy job. The roles of our security guards go way beyond than just inspecting our bags. The responsibilities of our janitors are much greater than wiping our tables, mopping our floors squeaky clean. Their services make our lives easier, our world more secure. At all times, we must remember and acknowledge these heroes in our hearts and minds and pay them the salute they have always deserved. That deeper appreciation is long overdue.
